Waterfront Monohpony (2021/22)
“Blurring the line between sound art and the sonics of Wellington’s Waterfront”
Waterfront Monophony helps to break down the barriers of access to sound art, moving the medium from academic and art institutions to Wellington’s waterfront. As the public walk along the waterfront, they will hear the sounds of five Aotearoa New Zealand composers’ works blend with the surrounding sounds of the wind and sea.
The works are split between twelve wireless speakers, each held by a performer who paces a length of the waterfront. This work also explores new research within sound art aiming to increase the accessibility of spatial audio.
Featuring works from Jesse Austin-Stewart, Mia Kelly, Hakopa Kuka-Larsen, Flo Wilson, and Rose Windeler.
Supported by The Ministry for Culture and Heritage.
